D-dimer
D-dimer is a small protein fragment that is produced when a blood clot dissolves in the body. The D-dimer test is a blood test that measures the level of D-dimer in the blood. It is used to help diagnose or rule out the presence of blood clots, particularly in conditions such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE).
